How to Treat and Prevent Colds

Prevention

When the cold season starts in Autumn, it is advised to start using products to help protect against the cold virus. It is recommend to diffuse the essential oils of cajuput, eucalyptus, niaouli, pine and thyme. Use them individually, or two to three together. This will provide a highly antiseptic atmosphere.

Another action to take is to dab a drop of niaouli on a tissue and to inhale it occasionally. This will clear the nasal passages. Be careful not to place the essential oil directly on the nose as an irritation might develop.

When a cold takes hold

Use a diffuser with the same essential oils mentioned above. It is a good idea to drink a cup of hot, boiled water every three hours to cleanse the system. Three times a day drink a cup of thyme herbal tea to which you have added the juice of half a lemon and a teaspoon of honey to fight the infection.

Prepare a bath with the essential oils mentioned above and soak in it for 10 to 15 minutes. The bath should be hot enough to induce perspiration but remember that very hot baths are not recommended for people with cardiovascular problems, high blood pressure and varicose veins not for pregnant women.

After the bath, wrap yourself in a toweling robe and sweat it out for as long as you like, but when you start to feel chilly change into warm clothes. This is excellent for getting rid of toxins. Then go to bed for some rest.

Take one aromatic bath a day for three days, and then return to the usual recommended practice of taking four aromatic baths a week.

Eat a light diet if you have no temperature. If you have a fever, take only liquids.

If your chest is infected, apply an oil make of 2 per cent essential oil of niaouli, eucalyptus and pine in wheatgerm oil to your chest, morning and night. Rest is important to give your system a chance to fight the infection, so rest as much as possible.
