
What keeps humans and other primates from looking like a jelly fish? That would be the mineral called calcium. Calcium is the building block of bones. It also gives bones their exceptional strength. Our bones are as strong as metal but weigh a whole lot less. In fact, our bones have the strength to withstand impacts of great force without breaking or snapping in two. There is a limit though as to the force of the impact they can take before something bad happens.
People should take care of their bones. Taking care of your bones means making sure you get enough calcium in your diet. Not having enough calcium in your diet will lead to a weak bone structure. It may not concern you now, but later in life it certainly will. You do not want to be walking along and have one of your bones just break due to it being brittle because of the lack of calcium over the previous years.
When you are older this can be a big problem. Not only will it be a struggle to get back on your feet and painful, it will also limit what you can do for a while at least. It may even put you in a nursing home that could become your permanent residence it the healing process is to slow or does not happen in the proper way.
The bones in your body also protect what is inside the middle of them. That would be the bone marrow. Here is where you produce red blood cells. These red blood cells carry the oxygen all the rest of your body, including your brain, needs to survive. The marrow is so important to sustaining human life, that it is harvested when going for treatment that will kill it. It is then put back in to your bones to resume the work it was designed for.
The mineral calcium plays a vital role to your well being and making your life one worth living. Make sure you get enough of this precious mineral into your body so there are no issues later down the road.
